Today was the Meirin Park Festival in Horonobe. My friend Tomoko and I went together and had a lot of fun. I loved hearing the Latin jazz band. But my favorite thing was definitely the sumo event. Six guys competed two at a time in a mini pool of slippery goo. Even the referee could barely keep his footing. A teacher at the junior high school in town was one of the competitors, and so was one of my high school students from another town. The guys in the picture are just random dudes.
When we got back to Wakkanai, we went to another local festival and hung out for a while. All in all, it was a good day of festivals!
