Hi, Second Graders!
I hope you liked the letters from Japan! Here are some pictures of some of the things the Japanese students mentioned in their letters. I am still looking for some more pictures to show you.
Yakiniku is a kind of Japanese BBQ. It’s really fun and delicious.
Soba is a type of noodle. Here, we are going to eat cold soba dipped in a tasty sauce. It was yummy!
Here is my friend making soba noodles! It was fun to watch. I had never seen someone make soba before. Can you make spaghetti noodles? I don’t know how.
Natto is made from soybeans. But I don’t like it very much. It’s very stringy and hard to eat. Sometimes, it gets stuck to the end of your nose!
Sashimi is the pink stuff in the middle. It is sliced raw fish. I think sashimi is delicious! If you ever go to a Japanese restaurant, you should try it!

Yesterday groups of 3 took turns sharing a letter with the class. There were 29 left, so I allowed everyone to read one aloud today as we sat in a circle.
There are still 4 letters remaining. Tomorrow we will share those as well as view these pictures around our 5 computers. Thank you so much for posting these. I learned a lot, and I know my students will enjoy them Thursday.
We really loved your letter to us. It is the best letter we ever got. The pictures were super, too. Some of us think we might like natto and sashimi, but others think those foods might be gross.
We appreciate all the letters you sent us from Japan. We loved reading them out loud to the class. Each one of us got to choose a letter to take home to keep forever.
Thank you for coming to see us and for all you did for us. We love you and miss you.
Tomorrow we will be promoted, and then we will be your third graders!
Love,
Your almost third graders
