Happy 11th month birthday, me

Yes, my birthday is one month from today. And it’s – gulp…

GOING TO BE MY 30TH

Now, I’m sure that everyone over 30 is probably not too impressed by this and everyone under 30 is probably like, “Whoa. Will you have to like, start taking Ensure?”

I remember when a coworker turned 30 maybe 3 years ago. She was the first person I actually remember seeing turn 30. Part of me was waiting for a magical transformation, and I was a bit relieved to not see anything happen.

I’ve been dreading turning 30 for, well, a really long time. The twenties are a really high pressure decade – there is so much …stuff… you are supposed to do. I wonder how the thirties are…?

Anyway, in honor of changing decades, I believe the accepted thing to do is to make a list of things to do before changing numbers. Perhaps most of us believe in the magical transformation to instant decrepitude…

So, in order to not be the only person without a list of things to do before turning 30, I present my List:

1. Finish David Copperfield. I started back in January and read faithfully for a really long time (and the book kept going and going). Somewhere along the line, I moved on to other books. Then I realized that it could be a part of the List, and so I couldn’t finish it until I posted the List.

2. Leg press 108 kilograms. Just because it sounds like a really huge number. To be honest, leg presses and hamstring curls seem like kind of silly exercises sometimes. Although, if a 108 kilogram rock ever falls on you, give me a call. Still can’t think of a good use for a hamstring curl.

3. Ummm…think of something else to add to this list.

4. Make a recipe from my new cookbook (all in Japanese).

OK, that’s it! Look, I finished #3!

To be honest, I’m pretty content with my twenties. I am already thinking of lots of things I want to do AFTER I turn 30, though! Look for that list soon (maybe).
