"How about we try to think about dinner more as a reward after a hard day of working and playing and less as a dutiful, it’s-coming-no-matter-what, final indignity." -www.dinneralovestory.com
Yes, I singlehandedly turned these horrors into something edible - hence today's title
Tuesday night, a Bible study friend recommended a book to me called "Fine China is for Single Women, too". The premise of the book is that single women should not put life on hold while they await marriage. Like many truths, this was something I knew, but the title put things into a new perspective for me. Unfortunately, now I want china. So, if you are thinking of buying a gift for me in the near future... ;-)
Later, I started thinking about nutrition. I often approach dinner at home as a bother. After all, it comes every night without fail. It also follows a long day of work when all a tired girl wants to do is hit the tatami with a good book or a movie. And honestly, who wants to spend a lot of time and botheration on something only one person is going to enjoy. And don't get me started on the perils of leftovers.
But, on the other side of the equation, what's wrong with preparing something for one person to enjoy? And we all have the same nutritional needs as anyone else - married or single.
So, tonight I'm going to make a real dinner. As for tomorrow, who knows what will happen. But tonight, I'll enjoy my dinner.

Your post makes me think...so often we unconsciously accept the notion that marriage is the norm for all people, and that all the rest are just waiting for that to happen. All life needs to be equally valued from the unborn to the elderly. Marriage is a part of some lives, but it is NOT life itself.
In my past, people automatically made marriage their goal. I realize now that our goal needs to be to please God. As we make pursuing God our goal, the rest of life falls into its proper priorities.
Thanks for posting on this mind-challenging topic, Elizabeth.
So what became of those ugly shrimp?? Jon cooked shrimp for us last night, too!
