Japan's Amazon is an amazing thing. It has tons of movies and books that I love and want, and generally for pretty good prices. You can usually get free shipping with no extended wait time, and the packages usually come super fast (even here to the boundary of the country). And...one of my favorite things about living in a cash-based society...COD.
There is only one problem. The packages usually come while I'm at work. Many sites in Japan will let you select a date and time for delivery (which is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet), but Amazon does not. So, my strategy for the past several months has been to get my supervisor to call for me.
Well, I got kind of tired of that. Especially if multiple packages come in a row or something...it's kind of embarrassing...uhhhh, I bought more stuff...not that I would know anything about that. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
My hands were ready, but my mouth rebelled. So, one time I emailed the company and asked if I could reschedule delivery online. Well, they were quite nice and just rescheduled it on their own (which was an outcome I was hoping for - I love indirect communication). Then, I did some searching online and found a whole blog post about how to call for redelivery.
So, today I bravely gathered up my scraps of courage, and attempted to use the automated line. FAIL! So, I regathered my courage and called the real person line.
The phone rang, and someone picked up the line. I started to read from the post online. "Fu-za-re," and I suddenly realized that I sounded like a complete idiot. I pushed on through the rest of the syllables, and somehow (miraculously) the poor lady knew what I was talking about. I somehow managed to choke through the rest of the conversation - my shining moment was reading the tracking numbers in Japanese. It's actually a little challenging to look at 5 and say "go" when your mind is telling you that 5 is "five." Oh, and I nicely said the past tense thank you at the end.
At the moment, I am feeling the RRRRRROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRR power surge just for calling! If the package actually comes, it will be an even louder RRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Might want to hold your ears just in case!
