Just in case anyone was wondering, the inside of a Vitamin E pill tastes terrible! It reminds me of the days I used to drink flaxseed oil (with some juice) for my skin. Blech. Anyway, I digress.
Some of you have wondered how I shop in a foreign language. Well, most of the time, it is not a problem. Carrots are pretty much carrots, eggs are pretty much eggs, and bento boxes from Seicomart generally have clear lids and I can see what's happening inside.
Well, with my new oven, I've needed to buy some new ingredients.
On today's list was vegetable oil. Now, I've bought olive oil here before. It was quite easy, as all the bottles basically look like this:
Unfortunately, purchasing vegetable oil would not be so easy, as the shelves at Saijo looked like this:
I am pretty sure they had about six miles of non-olive oil. At least, it felt like six miles to me! After whipping out my best katakana reading skills, I finally settled on a bottle of what I think is somewhat close to vegetable oil. I'll let you know how things go!

Just wondering, why do you need oil for cooking in an oven, and if you do need oil, why can't it be olive oil??
Keep sending pics of the stores!!
and do you eat most of your meals at home??? or out??
LOVE the pictures
I am making sweet muffins...don't think olive oil would taste too good, although I can imagine some of my readers trying it! ;-)
Most of my meals are (cough, cough) takeout from Seicomart. I also eat many of my meals in the plethora of restaurants around my house...the joys and perils of living in town! I have been cooking more this week. We'll see about the future!
